Kanaan hopes the president will use his prerogatives

Change and Reform MP Ibrahim Kanaan voiced hope on Saturday that President Michel Sleiman will use his prerogatives granted to him by the constitution with regards to the issue of the 8.9 trillion LBP and to issue accordingly the related decree law after the cabinet’s approval.

“It seems that the president refuses to use his prerogatives. However, the decision rests with the cabinet whether to refer the draft law again to the parliament since it is a collective responsibility”, he told Nharkom Said TV show.

Kanaan added that he has not yet looked into the details of the draft balance sheets related to years 2006-2010 and which were referred by Speaker Nabih Berri to the Finance and Budget Committee for examination.

“If those balance sheets were proven unaudited as rumored, it will be a dangerous move, and thus the ministry of finance’s Accounting Directorate will be considered as it has not fulfilled its duties”.
