Egyptians rally outside Lebanese Labor Ministry, 6 arrested

Around 20 young Egyptians rallied outside the Ministry of Labor in Chiyah on Saturday, some of them covered up with white sheets splattered with red ink, and some others beating their heads to the ground and holding banners reading “the sponsorship system kils one migrant worker per day”.

The crowd then headed to the Egyptian embassy in Beirut where they were joined by others, increasing the total number of participants to around 60. They were chanting the same slogan, and tried to storm the barbed wire set up by the security forces that were deployed as a preventive measure. Security forces arrested 6 protestors when one of them stoned security forces and the embassy’s building, causing the arrest of 6 of them.

Security forces are trying to scatter the crowd at the moment amid tight security measures.
