Jumblatt: We are ahead of fateful elections

National struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt said on Saturday that the labor force in Lebanon and across the world is struggling under the weight of the banks’ hegemony, the absence of labor confederations and the unity of the working class.   

“The working class in Lebanon is absent due to the political factors recently besieging the workers’ issues,” he added in a phone call during a PSP dinner in California on the occasion of Labor Day.   

“Even if the party decided to reach a settlement with the March 8 camp in order to protect stability in Lebanon, the upcoming legislative elections will be held to preserve [Lebanon’s sovereignty] and to avert Lebanon and Lebanese institutions from falling under the [grip of the opposing] axis.”
       
Commenting on the arms issue, the PSP leader said that “the issue could be subject to discussion provided that the arms not be used on the internal scene and they be handed over [to government] at the right time”, adding that the country is ahead of elections that are similar to “a war of elimination” and a war of “to be or not be,” as he said.       

As for the Syrian issue, Jumblatt said that although the Syrian regime is “shaky”, it is still using its tools in Lebanon, adding that “nothing deters the Syrian regime from bringing back the waves of assassinations and eliminating national, sovereign and independence symbols.”
