For the fourth consecutive day, Bassel al-Amin remains under arrest on charges of contempt and insulting the national emblem (the cedar) and inciting strife, according to the first investigative judge.
According to the Penal Code, Article 317 stipulates that the crimes that undermine national unity or hinder the serenity between the citizens, every act, writing or speech that provoke sectarian or racial strife or incite conflict between sects and various members of the nation, shall be punished with imprisonment from one to 3 years and a fine that can reach 800 thousand LBP.
