Two Nepalese domestic workers, who are the same time rights activists defending the rights of foreign domestic workers in Lebanon, were surprised when last week General Security arrested them with no clear motives, and decided the deport them.
However, a number of associations worked on the case and issued a report whereby they confirmed that the workers’ residency permits are perfectly legitimate.
In turn, the General Security refused to comment on the case or reveal the causes that led to the deportation.
Accordingly, the concerned civil society groups urged the General Security to retract their decision to deport the workers, and grant them time to assign lawyers and have a chance for a fair trial, in case they violated the law in any way.
