Saffadi to file complaint against General Security over Mawlawi arrest
Finance Minister Mohammad Saffadi informed the Higher Defense Council on Sunday of his intention to file a complaint against General Security over the Mawlawi arrest case.

The council also stressed the importance of securing assets for the LAF and security forces, enabling them to fulfill their obligations

The Higher Defense Council convened at the Baabda palace on Sunday under the chairmanship of President Michel Sleiman and with the participation of PM Najib Mikati, Ministers Adnan Mansour, Fayez Ghosn, Marwan Charbel, Nicolas Nahhas, Mohammad Saffadi and Shakib Kortbawi.

Several security and army leaders also attended the meeting.

The council  discussed the security incident and developments in Tripoli, knowing that the decisions to be made during the meeting remained undisclosed.

Sleiman and Mikati had earlier hold a meeting during which they discussed latest developments.

Earlier in the day, Mikati confirmed that “there is no political cover for any security destabilizer,” adding that significant measures will be taken in the upcoming hours.

The premier stressed that it was agreed during the meeting that “Tripoli’s security is a red line”, adding the street game is dangerous and “a double edged sword that might turn against the country’s security.”

In turn, The Mufti of Tripoli and the North, Sheikh Malek Shaar, said that “it is not permissible that Islamist detainees remain imprisoned without trial”, adding that the sit-in will come to an end today.

Mikati presided over a meeting at his residence in Tripoli to discuss security incidents in the city.

The meeting included ministers, Sheikh Malek Shaar, as well as representatives of Islamic and security figures.
