Mikati: Cabinet assisting oppressed people in Tripoli but not at the expense of security
PM Najib Mikati stressed on Tuesday that the cabinet is extending assistance to the oppressed people in Tripoli but “not at the expense of security and the judiciary.”

During a press conference, Mikati said that “arms are spread across [Lebanese regions]; [let’s] not hide behind our fingers”.

“Security cannot be achieved by [common consent]; but we do not want to harm the LAF as it is entering battle areas,” he added.

Commenting on the issue of 8.9 trillion LBP issue, the prime minister explained that the issue was referred to parliament, pointing out ongoing efforts to legalize the 4.9 trillion LBP.

Mikati also confirmed that he has submitted his candidacy for the upcoming legislative elections.

Mikati had earlier met with President Michel Suleiman at the Baabda palace where both officials discussed several issues, notably the security situation in Tripoli and the expenditure item.
