Lebanon’s cabinet, which has failed to convene for three weeks to facilitate the citizens’ affairs, managed to hold a meeting on Thursday, not to declare a breakthrough over the issue of the electoral law, but to approve the travels of officials to foreign countries.
Within an agenda of 105 items, 51 (half of the agenda) of them were travel requests.
The requests varied between conference, forums, training session, meetings and other occasions, submitted by all ministries.
In the budget of 2017 and 2016 as well, the cost of officials’ travels was estimated at LBP 7.4 billion, distributed between the presidencies and ministries.
But these numbers double and triple when it comes to reality.
