Sheikh al-Wahed killing draws mixed reactions, Merhebi calls for resignation of Kahwaji
The killing of Sheikh Ahmad Abd al-Wahed and his companion in Akkar has spurred mixed reactions.

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel told LBCI on Monday that the security situation today is good, adding that the judiciary will have a final say on the crime.

Charbel stressed that the security forces are for all the Lebanese; security forces members will be held accountable in case of any mistake.

In this context, in a statement to LBCI, MP Mouin Merhebi called for the resignation of LAF Commander Jean Kahwaji, “or let the president relieve him of his duty.”

In turn, MP Khaled Daher called on concerned parties to address the repercussions of the incident immediately, adding that the Airbone Brigade of the LAF has already killed other persons in the north.

In turn, MP Ammar Houri called for inflicting the most severe punishments upon all the perpetrators of the killing.

The Imam of al-Bireh Mosque voiced hope that investigations into al-Wahed killing be carried out swiftly, calling on Akkar residents to have patience until the circumstances of the incident are uncovered.

As for the Mufti of Tripoli and the north Malek al-Shaar, he told LBCI “we have confidence in the state and its institutions, and we still have strong faith in the army and security forces.”
