REPORT: Facts about organ donation in Lebanon

The first organ donation surgery from a living person performed in Lebanon took place in the year 1972 in al-Barbir hospital.

 

After 11 years, a legislative decree was issued to regulate the process of removing human organs for medical needs.

 

Between the years 1985 and 2004, the opening of transplant centers at Lebanese hospitals succeeded.

 

The first organ transplant program took place at Rizk Hospital in 1985.

 

The first kidney transplant performed from a dead person took place in 1990 and was followed by a liver transplant in 1997.
