Public Prosecution presses charges against Al-Jadeed TV channel
Public Prosecutors pressed on Thursday proceedings against the Al-Jadeed TV channel officials after Speaker Nabih Berri filed a complaint.
The prosecution charged Chairman of Al-Jadeed Tahseen Khayat, journalist Karma Khayat, and the Al-Jadeed’s Head of News and Political Programs Mariam al-Bassam with "spreading false news, slander and defamation."
The charges comprised a demand for tough sanctions against the defendants.
Last Friday, Speaker Berri filed a lawsuit before the Public Prosecution against Tahseen and Karma Khayat, Al-Jadeed TV, and Mariam Al-Bassam, on charges of libel and fomenting sectarian strife.

In turn, the al-Jadeed channel filed a lawsuit against Speaker Berri and the AMAL Movement.

Unidentified assailants had set an al-Jadeed’s SNG vehicle on fire on last Thursday at dawn.

Commenting on the incident, Al-Jadeed journalist Karma Khayyat had told LBCI that every time the TV channel airs a report on corruption or criticizing Speaker Nabih Berri, it gets attacked.

The media bureau of the parliament said later that “Karma Khayat launched lies and accusations concerning the incident that took place at al-Jadeed’s headquarters where a live coverage van was set on fire.”
