Speaker Nabih Berri stressed that “the Parliament has been trying and will continue trying to reach a new electoral law,” adding that no one can exert pressure on the parliament other than the Lebanese people.
During a press conference, Berri emphasized his insistence to avoid resorting to the 1960s law, the term extension and the parliamentary vacuum, adding that they will also avoid sectarian aspects in any electoral law.
“The issue of redistributing the parliamentary seats is rejected in form and basis,” he stated, stressing the importance of fair representation.
Berri reiterated the holding a parliamentary session is a constitutional right, hoping that the electoral law will be ready by June 05.
