Order of Physicians’ president speaks to LBCI about cases of Sophie Machlab and Farah al-Qassab

The president of the Order of Physicians Raymond al-Sayegh stressed that the order’s role is to protect the physicians, but not in cases of medical error, noting that the increase in number of complaints concerning medical errors. “There are currently 50 complaints filed with the order,” he stated.

In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, al-Sayegh said that there is a mechanism adopted when a complaint is filed over a medical error, pointing out that the judicial authorities issue the final decision.

 

He explained that the order’s duty ends when that of the judiciary begins.

 

Commenting on the case of the child Sophie Machlab, al-Sayegh said that some physicians lack the required sense of responsibility while others don’t.

 

Regarding the case of Farah al-Qassab, he noted that the report of the Order of Physicians will be issued after Eid al-Fitr holiday, adding that the order requested a field inspection to be conducted at Nader Saab Hospital.

 

Child Sophie Machlab sustained brain damage that caused limbs and senses paralysis, after undergoing a surgery to remove a tumor in her buttocks; while Jordanian national Farah al-Qassab died after undergoing a liposuction at Nader Saab cosmetic hospital.
