Washington expresses alarm over the build-up of weapons by Hezbollah

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley warned against Hezbollah’s attempts to expand its arms arsenal, stressing the need for the international community to “apply more pressure on Hezbollah to disarm and cease its destabilizing behavior.”

Haley’s statement came during her meeting with UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag on the eve of a meeting of the Security Council on the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) deployed in southern Lebanon.

The ambassador also expressed alarm over the build-up of weapons by Hezbollah, which she described as “a situation that demands the international community’s attention to prevent the further escalation of regional tensions.”
