US wants UN to expand its mission in Lebanon

The United States wants Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley declared that the US wants the UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon to expand its mission and investigate the “violations of Hezbollah.”

The UN Security Council is scheduled to vote on renewing the mission of the UN interim force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on August 30, and Haley said she will seek to make "important improvements" to its mandate.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres informed the UN Security Council that he intended to discuss ways in which UNIFIL could make additional efforts related to the illegal presence of armed men, weapons or infrastructure within its area of operations."
