The leagues of Mokhtars from Al-Kaitaa region carried a symbolic sit-in in al-Abdeh, Akkar, to protest against keeping Friday out of the official weekend. The protesters denied the citizens access to the Registry building to get their civil status record applications or any other official documents.
The President of Al-Kaitaa Mokhtars league, Issam Jaber affirmed that the sit-in is just a symbolic beginning, pointing out that in case no decision is taken to make Friday a day off, which is “the request of all Muslims and a way to enhance coexistence” they will escalate.
He also called upon the officials to deal with this important issue of coexistence, “because Friday is considered a holiday for Muslims. “
In turn, the mayor of the town of Izal in Al-Donnieh, Ahmad Al-Maghchouch declared that he will not be abiding by the law issued by the Parliament to consider Friday as a normal working day, and that he will be joining his colleagues the mayors of Al-Donnieh, Akkar and other Lebanese regions that rejected said law.
