Wahhab to LBCI: Hariri exerted pressure and prevented army for taking initiative in August 2014

Head of al-Tawhid al-Arabi party, former Minister Wiam Wahab said Tuesday that Prime Minister Saad Hariri exerted pressures on the cabinet and the Lebanese Armed Forces Commander back in August 2014, and prevented the army from taking quick initiative, out of fear from clashing directly with the residents of the northeastern town of Arsal.

In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, he pointed out that “had the army acted quickly and directly back then, the terrorists would have been able to take the soldiers to the mountainous regions.”

Commenting on the timing of Hezbollah’s battle in the mountains, Wahhab stressed that the Shiite party could not wait infinitely for the government to take the decision to liberate the mountains, at a time when the booby-trapped vehicles were entering Lebanon.

He added that Hariri did not commit to the political conditions according to which he was appointed Prime Minister, describing his political and development performance as “bad.”
