President Aoun: Lebanon will continue fighting terrorism
President Michel Aoun stressed on Friday that "Lebanon is continuing to fight terrorism after its achievement in liberating its border from the Islamic State terrorist group," noting that "the efforts are now focused on pursuing sleeper cells and arresting their members."

"The Lebanese Army showed great efficiency during the Fajr El-Jouroud Battle," said Aoun during his meeting with deputy commander of the US Central Command General Charles Brown at the Baabda Palace in the presence of US Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard.

Aoun also praised "the US support for the Lebanese Army in training and ammunition provision."

"Lebanon is fully adhering to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and cherishes the role played by the UNIFIL to establish peace on its border," he said, referring to the Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
He also voiced hopes that the United States would continue to support the UNIFIL operating in South Lebanon in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Aoun told his guest that "the US administration has shown full understanding of Lebanon's position over the issue of displaced Syrians," and that "the meetings held in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly have made clear the Lebanese call for the return of Syrian refugees back to Syrian territory as soon as the fighting ends."
