LBCI received the concept paper of the Syrian Congress of the National Dialogue to be held in Russia’s Sochi, and which determined the framework of the invitations to the congress and its objectives.
Aside from political forces and civil society groups, the invitations will also include representatives of various ethnic and confessional groups as well as traditional institutions.
As for the objectives, they include:
- To reaffirm the commitment to the unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-sectarian character of Syria;
- Express support for reconciliation process and willingness to facilitate political reforms on the basis of the current legislation of Syria;
- Facilitate the launch of the inclusive Syrian-led political process that will meet legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people
- State readiness to start drafting a new Syrian constitution in order to hold democratic elections with the participation of all Syrians, pursuant to the new constitution, under the UN supervision (in accordance with UN SC resolution 2254).
As for the political transition, opposition sources close to moscow said that these items guarantee a political transition within the framework of the new constitution.
