205 new cases of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) were diagnosed in Lebanon in 2017, bringing the total of the registered people with HIV to 2206, according to the numbers of the National AIDS Control Program.
60% of the new cases are still in their early stages while 27% of them are in advanced stages of HIV.
94% of them are men and 6% are women.
37% fall in the age range from 15 to 29 years, while 47% are within the 30-49 years age range.
According to the study, all these patients confirmed that they got the virus through unprotected sexual intercourse.
The study added that 54% of them are homosexuals and 37% are heterosexuals.
It is worth mentioning that 186 of the cases diagnosed this year have started receiving treatment from the Health Ministry, and 1304 of the total registered patients have also been receiving treatment from the ministry.
