Geagea: Call for dialogue is a tactic, Syria needs a “Yemeni solution”

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said Wednesday that the call for dialogue is nothing but a tactical measure; “it is definitely not a strategy and holding this dialogue or not will make no difference”. Geagea said that Hezbollah is sparing no effort to disrupt the upcoming parliamentary elections, adding “if the party tries to do so, we will face it and insist on holding them on time”.     

Geagea said that security developments between Jabal Mohsen and Bab el Tebbaneh in Tripoli are unacceptable and deplorable, adding that a solution can be reached only if the cabinet convenes and orders the LAF and security forces to take weapons away from all citizens.        

Geagea stressed that the current regime in Syria will not persist; “some are talking about a serious political solution, the Yemeni way”, he said. Geagea added that sooner or later, Russia and China will inform Syrian President Bashar Assad that the game is over.       

Geagea said that the current negotiations between the U.S. and Europe on one hand, and Russia and China on the other will lead to a solution that lies in Assad’s departure and the appointment of a temporary transitional figure to take control of the security situation. According to Geagea, this must be done through the intervention of international forces and a call to hold elections.
