A statement issued prior to the meeting by the US Department of State has said that the US Secretary’s participation in the ISG demonstrates “the United States’ strong support for the sovereignty, stability, and independence of the Republic of Lebanon and of its political institutions.”
The statement added that Secretary Tillerson will re-emphasize the United States’ continued commitment to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and our partnership in the fight against terrorism.
As for Hezbollah’s activities, the statement stressed that the “Secretary will also encourage the Lebanese government and other nations to move more aggressively in limiting Hezbollah’s destabilizing activity in the region, which will help make for a stronger, more stable Lebanon.”
