Aoun: Government should control Tripoli, East Bekaa and Lebanese border

FPM Leader MP Michel Aoun held a press conference on Tuesday  in Rabieh following the weekly meeting of Change and Reform Bloc.    

Aoun said that the government is responsible for the protection of Lebanese citizens, in contrast to protecting "gunmen". He went on saying,  that the Lebanese government must control Tripoli, East Bekaa and the entire Lebanese border, since the situation on the border with Syria has become intolerable.                     

“What is happening on the Eastern and Northern borders is unacceptable and it violates Lebanon’s sovereignty and treaties signed with Syria and the Arab League”, he added                                 

Aoun considered that the attacks on the Lebanese Army come under the pretext of isolating the LAF to create a military free zone for militias to conduct attacks against Syria. He stressed that Lebanon would be in a chaotic state without the LAF and the ISF.                           

Regarding the foreign ownership law, Aoun said that his bloc  has been bringing it to light since February 2009, adding that the government has yet to look into it. He stressed that this is the most important law pertaining to social issues. Accordingly, Aoun said that Lebanon should not remain as an open front for foreign ownership, noting that [they] oppose all sales over 3000 meters.         

Commenting on the Egyptian elections Aoun said: “If I were Coptic, I would not have  voted”.
