Prime Minister Saad Hariri stressed Lebanon’s right to explore its natural resources, noting that the Lebanese southern borders are the calmest borders in the Middle East.
Hariri’s remarks came during a joint press conference with US State Secretary Rex Tillerson, who stressed that Washington will continue to stand by the Lebanese people and its public institutions, emphasizing that “it is impossible to talk about stability without treating the issue of Hezbollah.”
“Washington does not see distinction between military or political wing of Hezbollah,” Tillerson said after meeting with Hariri.
He added that the Lebanese army is the only defender of Lebanon, stating that the United States was engaging with Lebanon and Israel to ensure the border remained calm.
The US official urged Lebanese leaders to uphold the country's commitment to staying out of regional conflicts, calling on Hezbollah to put an end to its activities abroad.
