REPORT: UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations tours Lebanese officials
United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations jean-Pierre Lacroix said on Monday that the peacekeeping forces will continue their role of serving the peace in Lebanon.
His comments were made following a meeting with President Michel Aoun in Baabda whereby he highlighted the good cooperation of the Lebanese authorities with the UNIFIL forces.
Lacroix concluded by saying that the UNIFIL plays the role of a “mediator between Lebanon and Israel.”

For his part, President Aoun said that Lebanon is ready to defend itself in case of any Israeli attack.

Lacroix then met with Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

“We had very good discussions with the prime minister, and we thanked him for the good relationship that we have with the Lebanese government that helps in completing the UNIFIL’s mission,” he added after the meeting.

The UN official also held talks with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain el-Tineh.
