In the Lebanese upcoming parliamentary elections and according to the new electoral law, a ballot paper includes the electoral lists nominated for each electoral district.
The voter has to check the box next the list he/she chooses (with an x), then the voter has to choose one candidate from the same list to grant the latter the “preferential vote,” on the condition that the candidate is from the district the voter belongs to.
In case the voter chose a list without granting a preferential vote, the vote is considered correct and is counted as a vote for the list.
However, in case a vote chose a list and checked two preferential votes, neither of the votes is counted, but only a vote for the list is counted.
In case a voter choses a list and then grants a preferential vote for a candidate from another list, the latter will not be counted, but the vote for the list will be.
In case a voter does not check any list on the ballot paper, but grants a preferential vote for a candidate, the preferential vote and a vote for the list to which the candidate chosen belongs will be counted.
In case a voter checks the boxes of several lists, the ballot paper is considered null and will not be counted.
Any ballot paper that contains any symbols other than (x) will also be considered null.
