Two Palestinian nationals released, protests in Tripoli demanding release of the rest

Two Islamist detainees of Palestinian nationals, identified as Jihad al-Qadi and Mohammad Wahbi, arrived at Tripoli’s Serail after being released earlier on Wednesday.

The two Palestinians will be later handed over to their relatives in Nahr al-Bared.

In the afternoon, a number of residents blocked a road leading to al-Nour Square in Tripoli, in protest to the rest of Islamist detainees not being released.

The residents threatened that they will hold a peaceful movement and block the roads in case Sheikh Tarek al-Merhebi is not released before Friday.

A number of Islamist detainees were released Tuesday from Roumieh prison as another 21 detainees are expected to be released in the upcoming weeks.

A 500,000 LBP bail for each prisoner was paid by PM Najib Mikati to ensure their release.
