Kanaan: Fiscal accountability absent due to Siniora

In a press conference held on Friday, Change and Reform Bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan called for the depoliticization of the fiscal file, asking sternly “aren’t the government’s imports and endowments topics worthy of debate? Especially since 95% of endowments are in private accounts?”

On MP Fouad Siniora, Kannan said that the former PM cannot keep 20 year old bank accounts hidden and can not issue a budget before closing accounts of previous years, according to the Constitution, noting that the Audit Bureau confirmed that the loans that have surfaced do not match the overall size of the debt.

He stressed that the dispute with rival political blocs is centered on the loss of precise calculations, confirming that the Finance and Budget Committee requested a report on the abuses.
