President Michel Aoun stressed that the ballot boxes gave the results, through which the Lebanese people wanted to open a new page of Lebanon’s political history after a period of tensions that caused exchange of accusations, noting that those who abstained from voting wanted to send a message “and that message has been delivered.”
Addressing the Lebanese people, Aoun said that “through your participation in the elections, you proved that you have an inherent democratic spirit and you have expressed your will for change freely,” adding that the new electoral law has achieved the fair representation that the people has always called for.
The president stated that the law gave the majority factions in Lebanon their share and respected as well the representation of the minorities.
“No one was deprived of representation except for those who failed to guarantee the electoral quotient,” he continued.
Aoun stressed that Lebanese will face many challenges, emphasizing the need for further solidarity more than ever and to prioritize the national interest above anything else.
