Berri: Withdrawal from Syria is currently unlikely

Speaker Nabih Berri condemned on Wednesday calls for Hezbollah and Iran to withdraw from Syria, saying that such a thing ids currently “unlikely” given the current situation in Syria.

Berri’s comments were made during an interview with sputnik Agency whereby he noted that Iran and Hezbollah are present in Syria at the request of the Syrian state.

“Just as the Russian presence in Syria came at the request of the Syrian government," he added.

Berri also stressed that if Hezbollah was not present in Syria, “Daesh would have reached Lebanon.”

Asked about the situation in which a withdrawal could take place, Berri said that a withdrawal will only take place “when Syria will be freed and all it territories will be unified.”
