Caretaker Minister of Health and Deputy Prime Minister Ghassan Hasbani declared the success of the first uterus transplant surgery in Lebanon and the Middle East at Bellevue Hospital, congratulating Lebanon for this new and one of a kind achievement that put it in the lead.
“There are only 10 centers in the world that are able to perform uterus transplant, which makes Lebanon the first country in the Middle East and North Africa that can do this kind of surgery and this gives hope to women who want to give birth,”Hasbani stated.
“Through these surgeries, Lebanon is playing an important role,” the minister said, affirming that clear regulatory frameworks have been put in place to perform the uterus transplant surgery, which was assisted by the National Organ Donation Organization and the Ministry of Health to ensure that the procedures related to organ transplant are ethical and adopt international standards related to this kind of surgeries to maintain the patient’s health and right.
Hasbani also thanked the medical team and stressed that he personally put a lot of efforts in the Ministry of Health to implement clear and transparent reform measures, including health tourism and its development.
He emphasized that he was able to make this achievement despite attempts by some parties to tarnish the image of the health sector for political purpose.
