The municipality of Beit Mery decided to expand the waste treatment process it has been implementing and establish a new waste treatment plant in the town’s valley, next to the old one, in order to be able to contain the waste produced by the town of Beit Mery and 13 neighboring villages in the northern and southern Metn, bringing to total of garbage to 400 tons per day.
Objections started rising over this decision within the municipal council, mainly over the location of the plant, known as Lamartine Valley and which is protected by a decree on usage of Lebanese territories.
The objections are also related to the large quantity of garbage as well as the adopted techniques and the method of contracting deemed illegal by those opposing the project.
