What would Lebanon do if there were gas reserves shared between the Lebanese 8, 9, 10 blocks and the Israeli Karish field?
This question arose when the Greek company “ENERGEAN” kicked off work, costing $1.5 billion, on said Israeli field located at 4 kilometers off the Lebanese maritime borders.
Sources well-informed on the Lebanese oil and gas sector said that Lebanon does not have definitive information on the existence of shared reservoirs between the Lebanese blocks and the Israeli field, since the three-dimensional seismic surveys conducted in 2006 and 2013 did not reach the farthest point at the current maritime borders between Lebanese and Israel.
Faced with this reality, and since Lebanon is not scheduled to start exploration before the summer of 2019, the Lebanese concerned parties, including the Ministry of Energy, are preparing to take action in order to preserve Lebanon’s rights.
