Caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transportation Youssef Fenianos stressed that “the failures that occurred at the airport were not intentional by the SITA Company,” noting that these things happen at all airports across the world.
During a meeting he held at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation building at Beirut International Airport, in the presence of a top delegation from the World Bank, Fenianos noted that the “Ministry of Public Works does not contract or prepares deals by refers demands to the cabinet, which in turn decides to release funds to the Council for Development and Reconstruction, which in turn hold tenders.”
He added that an amount of USD 18 million has been transferred from the CDR to be spent in accordance with priorities and plans at Beirut airport.
