Sidon's Traders Association stage counter-protest against Assir

Owners of commercial institutions in Sidon staged a protest on Thursday, near the eastern boulevard, raising Lebanese flags and banners that read “we want to eat, we want to live”. Protesters called on the government and all security apparatuses to work on opening the road blocked by Sheikh Ahmad Assir’s sit-in.

Protestors threatened to escalate their movement all the way to a general strike, stressing that their rally is economic, not political.

Sidon’s municipality and officials met at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture in Sidon and South Lebanon and stressed the necessity to lift the blockade off their city.

Also on Thursday, Sidon witnessed the distribution of leaflets by parties condemning the sit-in held by Sheikh al-Assir who refused to comment on the Traders Association’s sit-in. He read the statement issued by the above-mentioned meeting and is expected to respond in a long speech on Friday.
