Aoun holds joint press conference with Austrian President
President Michel Aoun held on Tuesday a joint press conference with visiting Austrian President Alexander Van Der Bellen at the Baabda Palace.
 
During the press conference, Aoun noted that he took an initiative to guarantee the government formation, especially that the dangers “are higher than the country can bear.”
 
“This initiative should succeed, and its failure will make Lebanon face a disaster," Aoun said.
 
On another note, Aoun said that he tackled with the Austrian president “the continuing Israeli threats against Lebanon, which pace has recently increased, and which are a part of the constant pressure exerted by Israel on Lebanon amid its violation to its land, sea and air sovereignty."
 
He also added that Israel had informed them through Washington that it does not have any hostile intentions.
 
"We do not have hostile intentions either, so there is no danger to peace," he said.
 
President Aoun also tackled the “importance of uniting international efforts to fight terrorism.”
 
“We also highlighted the need to speed up the solution for the Syrian refugees crisis which will contribute to their return to the safe areas in Syria without having to wait for a political solution to the Syrian crisis,” he added.
 
For his part, the Austrian President said that Lebanon has succeeded in addressing all challenges and hardships due to its diversity, pluralism and democracy."
 
He also asserted that his country will contribute in re-constructing Syrian when the Syrian crisis ends.
