Crossing points witness war between regime forces and opposition
The Free Syrian Army said it took control of the Syrian-Iraqi borders, as well as Rabia border crossing in the Nineveh province and main Abu Kamal, Qaim border crossing.

The opposition had earlier failed to control the Nasib crossing point on the border with Jordan.

While cautious calm prevails on the border region between Syria and Iraq at the Abu Kamal crossing point, Iraqi Interior Ministry's First Undersecretary Adnan al-Asadi declared that the Syrian authorities sent reinforcements to the border outposts and that the Syrian army is still controlling the Walid border crossing in the south.

This as the Associated Press broadcasted a video showing the deployment of the Iraqi army and police units on the border line between Iraq and Syria.

It is worth mentioning that the borders’ length between Syria and Iraq reach 600 kilometers, the majority of which is located in al-Anbar province, mostly Sunni and previously considered as a headquarter for al-Qaeda in Iraq.

These borders are also important because the Iraqi supplies to Syria are made through Abu Kamal crossing point in coordination with Iran and Moscow.
