Bombs kills over 16 people across Iraq on Sunday
Two bombs killed five people and wounded 14 in a busy market southeast of Baghdad on Sunday, police and hospital sources said.

The bombs detonated in Madaen, a town 30 km (20 miles) southeast of the Iraqi capital.

Meanwhile, police sources said that three car bombs killed 11 people and wounded 38 in Mahmudiya, a town 30 km (20 miles) south of Baghdad.

The first bomb detonated in a car in a parking lot, the second in another car as police arrived at the scene and a third at the town's police station, the sources said.

Many of the wounded, who included police officers, were in a critical condition.

Earlier on Sunday, a car bomb in the center of the Iraqi city of Najaf wounded 23 people, security and medical officials said.

The attack struck near a restaurant in Najaf's old town, provincial health department spokesman Salim Naama said, adding that 4 of the 23 wounded were seriously hurt.
