Caretaker Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil said that a public debt restructuring "is absolutely not proposed", adding that current proposals are for the implementation of reforms, reduction of budget deficit, guaranteeing financial balance and activating economic sectors.
Following a financial meeting held in Baabda, Hassan Khalil stressed that the state is committed to safeguarding rights of depositors, banks and holders of sovereign debt instruments.
The meeting was held on Sunday afternoon at Baabda palace, under the chairmanship of President Michel Aoun and in the presence of Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, caretaker Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil, caretaker Economy Minister Raed Khoury, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh and head of Lebanese Association of Banks Joseph Tarabay.
