Aoun meets with Kardel, calls for maintaining cooperation with UN to preserve common values

President Michel Aoun praised the ongoing cooperation between Lebanon and the United Nations, mainly in terms of maintaining security and stability along the southern borders, hoping that this coordination will persist to serve the values that both Lebanon and the UN believe in.

During his meeting with UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Pernille Dahler Kardel in a farewell visit upon the end of her mission in the country, Aoun thanked Kardel for the efforts she exerted in order to boost security and stability in Lebanon.

In turn, Kardel expressed gratitude for the support she had received from the President of the Republic during her mission in Lebanon, noting after the meeting that she had also thanked Aoun for this commitment to the implementation of UNSC resolution 1701.

She added that the UN will continue to work on achieving permanent ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel through the full implementation of the said resolution, reiterating her appreciation for Aoun's commitment to calling for national dialogue to discuss Lebanon's national defense strategy, hoping this dialogue will be held soon.

Kardel expressed hope that the sense of national unity and compromise would contribute to facilitating the formation of a unifying government soon.
