Strike in Sidon suspended, Mikati, Charbel promise to solve Assir's issue

The head of Sidon’s Traders Association Ali al-Charif declared on Sunday the suspension of the strike in Sidon which was scheduled for Monday to protest the damage caused in the city due to Sheikh Ahmad Assir’s sit-in. he noted that the strike’s suspension comes to give the chance for PM Najib Mikati and Interior Minister Marwan Charbel to solve the issue.

In this context, sources told LBCI that the contacts with Mikati and Charbel gave positive results regarding the intention to deal with Assir’s sit-in; however the means remain unclear.

The sources added that the objections to the final statement of Sidon’s official figures led the main political officials to boycott the meeting, and to the suspension of the strike due to attacks against a number of citizens and shops.

The head of the Future movement Fouad Siniora, MP Bahia Hariri and head of the Nasserite Popular Movement Ousama Saad did not attend the meeting of Sidon’s officials.
