Lebanon celebrates army’s 67th anniversary
Lebanon celebrated on Wednesday, the 67th anniversary of the Lebanese Army, during a ceremony held at the Shukri Ghanem barracks in Fayyadiyeh, under the auspices of President Michel Sleiman and in the presence of high end officials.

Official figures arrived at the venue to participate in the ceremony, including Army Chief Jean Qahwaji, PM Najib Mikati and Speaker Nabih Berri.

Upon his arrival, President Michel Sleiman, along with Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn and General Qahwaji, laid a wreath at the memorial of army martyrs.

On the occasion, Sleiman said that there is an urgent need today to place a defense strategy and solve the arms issue, “we reject unsystematic spread of weapons”, he added.

Sleiman called on the judiciary to issue verdicts, without hesitation or fear, against those who offend the army, noting that the government will not accept any excuse forcing the army to abandon its duties in protecting Lebanon.

The President stressed the need to distance Lebanon from regional conflicts, and to keep it close to the Arab rightful causes.

The ceremony included the graduation of military officers, as well as the promotion of student officers.
