Soueid to LBCI: Syrians' deportation deals a blow to cabinet's credibility
March 14 Secretariat General Coordinator Fares Soueid said on Saturday that the cabinet has lost its credibility “in the eyes of” the international community due to the recent deportation of 14 Syrians.

Soueid added to Nharkom Said TV show that PM Najib Mikati provided the General Security with political cover and therefore the responsibility is placed upon him and the cabinet.

He went on to criticize the handover of the 14 Syrians to the Syrian regime, saying that “they were handed over to corruption”. Commenting on the Syrian issue, Soueid confirmed that “the Russian veto at the Security Council does not change the situation in Syria but rather prolongs the suffering of this country”.

Soueid highlighted a political collision with Hezbollah leader Sayyed Nasrallah, “since the latter refuses the Lebanese regime and Constitution.”

He called on Nasrallah not to tie the handover of his party’s arms with the change of the regime for “this might lead to a civil war in Lebanon”. Accordingly, Soueid asked President Michel Sleiman to request clarifications from Nasrallah over his recent statements.
