Retired servicemen protest against possible salaries and pensions cuts

Retired military and security personnel staged on Tuesday sit-ins across Lebanon to protest government's possible austerity measures that might affect their salaries and retirement pensions.

Protesters gathered in the Riyad al-Soleh Square in Beirut and marched toward the Beirut Port.

Others blocked the entrance of the Banque Du Liban in the region of Hamra.

This as retired Major General Georges Nader told LBCI that the political authorities in the country failed in managing the public finances.

For his part, MP Shamel Roukoz called on the ministers to draft a “clear and honest economic plan,” voicing support to the rights of the retired servicemen.
