Environment Minister Fady Jreissati vowed Friday to turn the Environment Ministry into a sovereign ministry and to prevent anyone from attempting to marginalize it, calling for amending the Lebanese Constitution to include the Environmental Charter in its introduction.
In a speech he delivered during the Beirut Environment Conference 2019, Jreissati said that Lebanon’s environment is not good, noting that it must be immunized from political conflict.
“We have an opportunity to prevent sand quarries from operating in the majority of the Lebanese regions and we must speed up the installation of wastewater treatment plants in order to prevent the sewage from reaching the sea,” he added.
