Attorney Louay Ghandour, representing candidate Yahya Mawloud, submitted an appeal before the Constitutional Council on Monday, calling for the revocation of Dima Jamali’s election in Tripoli by-election held on April 14, 2019.
The appeal included 11 reasons to overturn the election of Jamali, chief among which the latter’s own admission during a televised interview on OTV channel to commit the crime of bribery where she bought votes with money.
In addition, the appeal also mentioned the executive authority’s direct involvement in Dima Jamali’s electoral campaign, where public sector employees worked on promoting her candidacy, as well as using governmental facilities, public institutions, universities and schools to hold festivals and electoral meetings.
It included as well using the government’s development projects funded with public funds and the loans of Cedre conference as a main part of the electoral campaign, in addition to surpassing the electoral ceiling and manipulating ballot boxes.
Ghandour called for revoking Jamali’s election and announcing the victory of Mawloud, who came in second place, as well as referring Jamali and everyone involved in her campaign to te judiciary to take the necessary measures against them.
