Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Choucair revealed that he called during the budget meetings for buying buildings to house state institutions instead of renting, adding that this is what he did regarding “Touch” Telecom company and in September he will start thinking about buying a building for Alfa.
“I saved the state large amounts of money and instead of paying $94 million in rents, we paid $68 million to own the building,” he explained.
The minister stated that “Touch” and “Alfa” have independency in their decision-making according to the law, while the minister has guardianship over them.
“We have a real chance to move things forward” he stated, hoping that the efforts will be fruitful and the cabinet will convene soon.
