Prime Minister Saad Hariri condemned the recent Israeli attacks that targeted Lebanon, deeming them blatant violation of the UN Resolution 1701 and a threat to Lebanon’s stability.
“This aggression is rejected and denounced; contacts have intensified in order to put an end to these attacks and prevent the Israeli enemy from continuing this aggression against Lebanon,” he said.
Speaking at the beginning of the cabinet session held at the Grand Serail, Hariri added that the Lebanese government will indeed file a complaint before the United Nations Security Council, stressing the need to maintain wisdom, calm and restraint in dealing with this issue.
Following the cabinet session, Environment Minister Fadi Jreissati spoke about the waste management plan, stating the plan has been approved with the majority of its items, explaining that one item remains that needs discussions and which is related to the financial provisions. He added that the Finance Ministry and the Environment Ministry are given a one-month deadline to complete this task, noting that a committee will be formed for this end.
As for the landfills, Jreissati said that “this item has been thoroughly discussed but there is no answer to be given today,” pointing out that they gave the local authorities (the municipalities and governors) a one-month deadline to respond to their requests or find alternatives, with the help of the Interior Ministry.
“Every region has the right to propose an alternative, nothing is mandatory or binding, we never said that the locations we proposed are final and not negotiable; all we said is that whoever wants to object our proposal must present another alternative,” he said.
For his part, Information Minister Jamal al-Jarrah condemned following the session that the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, adding that a complaint will be filed with the UN Security Council.
