Free Patriotic Movement chief, Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said that “they had warned their partners that the country would reach this stage,” noting that the people preceded them and turned the table.
During a demonstration held by FPM supporters in Baabda, Bassil said that he is keen on the success of the revolution, adding that “the revolution is an uprising against injustice, but the revolution cannot be unfair otherwise it will end. It is not fair to be wronged twice, once by the symbols of corruption and another by the victims of corruption.”
He also commented on the revolution’s slogan against all the officials, saying that not all of them are corrupt, adding that the corrupt are those who build their castles from the money of the state and the people, and those who set up checkpoints and reminded the people of the war times.
On lifting bank secrecy of the FPM deputies and ministers, Bassil explained that they called on all the officials to do so, but some of them refused and said that it is not enough, stressing that it can only be the beginning.
Regarding roadblocks, the minister said that instead of blocking the roads before the people, the roads must be blocked before the politicians who escape accountability and the judges who fail to implement the law.
Bassil also stressed that the priority is the delay the financial collapse rather than hasten it.
“Allow us to demand accountability to clean up our politics and achieve our demand of establishing a civil state without toppling the system but by developing it through the constitution,” he stated, emphasizing the need to establish a senate, to apply the extensive administrative and financial decentralization, which will lead to a unified law for civil status law and progressively move toward a civil state, in accordance with the Article 95 of the Constitution.
Addressing the demonstrators in Baabda, Bassil said they came here to draw support from President Aoun and share his goals.
“We will not accept that the revolution ends with the departure of the good people while the corrupt ones remain in place,” he said.
