President Aoun: Formal consultations could start Thursday or Friday

President Michel Aoun asserted on Tuesday that the demands of the protesters are “rightful,” adding that he did not get response from protesters to invitation to dialogue.

Aoun’s comments were made during a televised interview whereby he said that the formal consultations over the new prime minister could start Thursday or Friday “but he is still awaiting answers from others.”

“If we don't receive answers it will take a few more days,” Aoun added.

As for the participation of Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil in the new Cabinet, he said that Bassil presides over the biggest parliamentary bloc, adding that he only can decide whether to partake or not.

“Nobody can veto Gebran Bassil being a minister,” he stressed.

Asked about the form of the new Cabinet, Aoun said that he supports the formation of "a techno-political Cabinet.”

On another note, Aoun said that he had found outgoing Prime Minister Saad Hariri “hesitant about being named as a prime minister again.”
